About the Roulette Wheel
Wheel Sectors
The wheel sectors on the roulette wheel include voisins du zero, orphelins, and tieres du cylindre. These sections are number series that have specific names. Players may choose to bet a certain amount per series or multiples. The series are created based on how the numbers on the roulette wheel are situated beside each other. Not every casino offers these particular bets and there are some that may offer different types of bets or a variation of these bets.
Voisins du Zero (neighbors of zero)
The numbers on the roulette wheel that begin with 22 and go to 25, including both of these numbers, are the “neighbors of zero.” The numbers include 22, 18, 29, 7, 28, 12, 35, 3, 26, 0, 32, 15, 19, 4, 21, 2, 25. These are voisins du zero for a single zero wheel. To bet you must use 9 chips or multiples of 9. Two chips may be placed on the trio of 0, 2, 3 with one being placed on the 4/7 split, 1 on the 12/15, 1 on 18/21, 1 on 19/22, 1 on 32/35, and 2 on the corner 25/26/28/29.
Tiers du Cylindre
The tiers section is also called the “the third” and it is named for the numbers on the opposite sides of the roulette wheel that are between the numbers 27 and 33. The tiers series begins with 27, 13, 36, 11, 30, 8, 23, 10, 5, 24, 16, and 33. This is on a wheel that only has a single zero. Bets are in six chips or multiples of six. The following splits have one chip placed on each of them: 5/8, 10/11. 13/16, 23/24, 27/30, and 33/36. An additional chip may be placed on 5, 8, 10, and 11, for a Tier, 5, 8, 10, 11 which makes a 10 piece bet.
Orphelins (Orphans)
The Orphans are the numbers on the wheel that are nestled between Tiers and Voisins. There are eight numbers that make up the Orphans including 17, 34, 6 and the Orphelins have 1, 20, 14, 31, 9. Bets are made with chips of five or multiples of 5. A chip is placed straight up on one and then a chip is placed on the splits of 6/9, 14/17, and 31/34.
XX and the Neighbors
Bets on the neighbors are when a player bets on the two numbers that are on both sides of a five piece bet. An example would be to bet on 0 and the neighbors. This would be a one piece straight up bet on 3, 26, 0, 32, and on 15. Many times the bets are made in combination.
The roulette wheel may seem random to many people because the numbers don’t appear to have any rhyme or reason. However, this is not entirely the case. Of course, it is obvious that the red and black color scheme alternate number to number and that there are normally two odd numbers followed by two even numbers. It’s important to understand, however, that the numbers are arranged in a very particular way even if it does not appear to be so at first sight. That is because all of the numbers in each section are placed where they are in order to have the numbers equal roughly the same amount for each section. Some people won’t play roulette because of the sum of the numbers equals 666, but most people are unaware of this correlation.
Biased Roulette Wheels
It has long been stated that roulette wheels have a heavy side and a light side, making the numbers on the heavy side more likely to win. This may have been the case years ago, however, not anymore due to the fact that the roulette wheels are tested before they are placed in casinos. It is very unlikely to find a roulette wheel that is biased in today’s world.
Roulette Betting Methods
As with most methods of betting, there are plenty of betting methods associated with roulette. However, they really are not worth wasting your time on. Those who believe in betting systems with roulette have most likely heard of the “doubling up” system. This system is sometimes referred to as the Martingale system. Those who use this system simply double up progressively on bets. This particular method has been around since the beginning of roulette, however frequently it rears its head in a “new’ method that has been reinvented. Although players may feel they are winning in the short term, in the long run the house advantage of the 0 or the 0 and 00 is impossible to overcome. In the long run, the only system that wins on a regular basis is the house and this doesn’t help players at all!
Spinning the Ball
Players frequently believe that a dealer can spin the ball and have it land more or less in a particular area on the wheel. This is highly unlikely especially if the dealer is following the rules set forth by the casino. On the other hand, dealers believe they have this power despite the fact that it has never been proven and despite the fact that they can’t make a particular person win or lose for that matter. If they could, casinos could have some serious problems and many dealers would team up with other players to get big payoffs. Since that hasn’t happened as of yet it is pretty safe to consider that dealers really can’t follow the rules of the casino and control the spin. Simple as that!
